East End Refugee Committee (EERC)

St John’s is a founding member of the East End Refugee Committee (EERC), a group of local churches of various denominations. Together we undertake sponsorships of refugees approved for permanent residency by Canadian Visa Officers who receive requests through the United Nations High Commission for Refugees (UNHCR).

We provide financial support, friendship and settlement assistance to the refugee families which we sponsor.

2025 marks our 30th year of refugee sponsorship!  The EERC has sponsored and helped 80 people successfully settle in Canada over the 30 years. Read more about the 30-year anniversary here.

Donations from the community and our churches provide the funding to support the families.  Donations can be made through St John’s via Canada Helps here.  Please write “For the East End Refugee Committee” in the private message box located just below your donation amount.
