Signs of Life
Why Church Matters
Light • Water • Food • Shelter • Community
While it is a common tradition to give up something for Lent, this year we invite you to consider taking something on: join the Brothers of SSJE in exploring the signs and symbols at the heart of Christian worship. This free 5-week Lenten study program encourages us to explore the riches of our worship traditions, liturgy and sacraments, and the art and architecture of our worship spaces, revealing the full meaning of these signs, and deepening our experience of Christian vocation and worship.
During the season of Lent, we will be gathering on Monday evenings at 6:00 in the Prideaux Room in the basement for this Lenten study program. From 6:00 until 6:45, a light meal will be served at no cost. We’ll aim to begin each discussion shortly after 6:45 and wrap up 8:00 at the latest.
Each time we gather, we will be focusing on a particular theme:
- Monday, March 2 – LIGHT
- Monday, March 9 – WATER
- Monday, March 16 – FOOD
- Monday, March 23 – SHELTER
- Monday, March 30 – COMMUNITY
This programme has been designed and produced by the Society of Saint John the Evangelist, a religious order for men in the Episcopal Church, and by Lifelong Learning at Virginia Theological Seminary in Alexandria, Virginia.
